My husband used to work in cubical land. He was kind of an odd ball in the group of co-workers because he often brought left-over food for lunch. Most of them all went out to eat on a regular basis. He opted to eat left-overs.
One day, he heated up his left-over Taco Soup and proceeded to walk back to his cubical. He had just sat down to enjoy his lunch when someone stepped into his cubical and eagerly exclaimed, “What is that wonderful smell?” He explained what it was and she made more comments about how tasty it looked and then she went back to her cubical.
Hubby came home and told me his co-worker was just raving about the smell of the Taco Soup. So I told him to invite her over for dinner one night. She was so excited to be invited over that she brought delightful host gifts and returned for many more meals in our home. All it took to grow our community that day was a delicious smelling soup and an invitation.
We see many examples in the Bible of Jesus attending various feasts or dinners. One such story is in John 2:1-2 “On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus’ mother was there, and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding.” (NIV) Jesus understood the power of sitting down for a meal together.
